News - News - SAL Considers Judicial Review on Carter and launches Diversity Charter

02 Mar, 2007

Sailesh Mehta, barrister and Chair of the Society of Asian Lawyers (SAL), informed attendees at the BLD Diversity in Law Event on 1st March 2007 that SAL and the Black Solicitors' Network (BSN) are considering judicially reviewing the Department of Constitutional Affairs on the Carter proposals because of the terrible effect of such proposals on black and minority ethnic law firms.

Furthermore, SAL, together with the Law Society, have launched the Footsie 100 Project. The purpose of the project is to persuade some of the Footsie 100 companies to adopt the Diversity Charter and in so doing demand that their legal providers comply with that Charter. According to Sailesh, approaching the clients directly in this way will have an impact on diversity and effect faster changes.
