BLD'S summer social event, Summer Breeze, was hosted by Magic Circle law firm Slaughter and May on 1 July.

Sarah Lee, the host firm’s partner responsible for diversity and graduate recruitment, welcomed BLD founder and Chair Debo Nwauzu and attendees. Leading lawyer Solomon Wifa, the Managing Partner of O’Melveny & Myers, one of the world’s top 30 law firms, gave a talk entitled: “What I Know for Sure”, which was his insight into what it takes to get to where you want to be. He gave seven top tips namely: knowing what you want, confidence in yourself, excellence (professional, ethical and moral), passion, foresight, courage and all crucially underpinned by being in an environment where those around you have confidence in your ability and trust that you can deliver. He said confidence and excellence go hand-in-hand and confidence is about knowing your capability and your limitations. Those attending the event included Ernst & Young’s Global General Counsel Trevor Faure, Anesta Weekes QC, Icah Peart QC and Oba Nsugbe QC.
