News - Mirza Ahmad leaves top council legal post

Mirza Ahmad, who was the Corporate Director of Governance at Birmingham City Council, has left the post after a major corporate restructuring and budget saving exercise. Mirza said: “It has been a great honour and a privilege for me, over the past 11 years, to serve the largest local authority in the UK, Birmingham City Council. I am delighted, therefore, that I was able to play my part in raising excellence within the City Council and I wish the Council, its elected members and officers, every success for the future. As for my future, I will reflect on my future career direction and I remain firmly committed to promoting Birmingham, the legal profession and serving the public good.”Under the new structure 10 high-level positions will be replaced with four director roles and legal will fall under the Strategic Director of Resources position, to be held by the former Corporate Director of Resources. Mirza provided strategic leadership to the Council’s Legal, Democratic, Regulatory, Elections and Information Management Services, with over 800 staff. In 2009, he became one of The Lawyer magazine’s Hot 100 and was awarded the Public Service Lawyer of the Year Award 2009 by the Society of Asian Lawyers. He was President of the Association of Council Secretaries and Solicitors (ACSeS) for 2009/2010 and has been Chairman of the Bar Association for Local Government and Public Service since 1997. |
